Nirjala Ekadashi or Gayatri Yagna (Havan or Gayatri)

Jun 16 - Jun 17, 2024

Bhima, a lover of food, wanted to observe all ekadashi fasts, but could not control his hunger. He approached the sage Vyasa, author of the Mahabharata and grandfather of the Pandavas for a solution. The sage advised him to observe Nirjala Ekadashi, when for one day in the year, he should observe an absolute fast. Nirjala Ekadashi, which is considered one of the most prominent Ekadashi, is purely dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Devotees across the world observe a strict fast and worship Lord Vishnu seeking blessings. On Ekadashi, we should do fasting from food and grains, and Nirjala Ekadashi is considered Maha-Ekadashi, on which we should do fasting from water. If you cannot do fasting from water, we can consume water; you can take fruit juice.
